Some fall traditions are too good to let go of (and even better when you give them a little upgrade) #ad We wanted to see what one of our favorite fall traditions would look like then vs. now so we put our brains together and had a blast prop shopping, packing the car, and hitting the road to find the best views. We grabbed blankets, props, cozy flannels...and Sam Adams Octoberfest - because sometimes even your favorite tradition can be made a better. Super magical or highly overrated? Watkins Glen State Park is the crown jewel of New York’s Finger Lake Region and one of the best state parks in Upstate New York There are several hiking trails in Watkins Glen State Park, but the Gorge Trail Loop tops the list as one of the best easy hiking trails in all of Upstate New York. The Gorge Trail follows Glen Creek, up stone staircases and over a series of bridges, through an ethereal landscape full of waterfalls, swirling pools, and wispy waterfalls that trail like ribbons down the sides of the canyon. WHAT TO KNOW: 💵 Price to park: $10 (free to actually do the hike). Your parking pass is good for the entire day, so you won’t need to pay again if you plan to visit any of the other nearby state parks like Buttermilk Falls, Taughannock Falls, or Robert H Treman state park. ☔️ Wear hiking boots: Parts of the canyon stay damp and wet all year round, so wear actual hiking boots (or closed toe shoes you don’t mind getting muddy). Depending on the time of year you might also want a rain jacket for the drips coming from the falls. 🥾 It gets CROWDED: This is especially true for midday on weekends. The best time to visit Watkins Glen is early morning and later in the day on a week day to avoid the crowds. ⛔️ Closing dates: The Watkins Glen Gorge Trail to Rainbow Falls is typically open mid April to the end of October, but exact closing dates depend on the weather and flooding.
