I’m also a millennial who works full-time, yet I still find ways to travel frequently without breaking the bank, because traveling is what makes me feel most alive. Fall color update in Upstate NY as of Monday, 9/23/2025 These clips were taken in the northern Adirondacks, around Wilmington and Lake Placid, NY. Looks like a weird fall where all the reds and purples are changing early. Some mountain faces in Wilmington were completely red already. Some spots are a muted brown color, likely from the drought. There are pockets of vibrant yellow and orange along the road, but lots of yellow hasnt changed yet. For this area, I predict yellows will change by first week in Oct, but all the red and purple might be off the trees by then 🫠 Same thing for parts of the Central ADK, where there’s a lot of red showing. Cascade Lakes area, Keene Valley, and Lake George are still pretty green!

Save this 5-Day New Hampshire itinerary for your fall road trip! 

✈️ AIRPORT: Burlington International Airport (BVT) in Vermont 
⏰ TIME NEEDED: 5 days

🗓 WHEN TO GO: Best fall colors for this itinerary are between the first and second week in October when Dixville Notch and parts of Vermont are at peak color. 🍁 ITINERARY: Day 1: Arrive in New Hampshire; hike Table Rock in Dixville Notch for sunset (BONUS: If you have time, add stops in Stowe, Vermont and Smugglers Notch, VT before driving to NH. These stops will likely add an extra day, unless you get a reallyyy early start.) Day 2: Artist Bluff and Bald Mountain summit in Franconia Notch for sunrise; Flume Gorge; Overnight in Lincoln or North Woodstock, NH Day 3: Kancamagus Highway; Black Cap Trail for sunset; Overnight in North Conway, NH Day 4: Mt Willard in Crawford Notch for sunrise; Ripley Falls; Mount Washington Auto Road; Overnight in North Conway, NH Day 5: Hike Mt.
